Women and Media Forum in Idlib Discusses the Needs of Displaced Women
With the presence of representatives from civil society organizations, humanitarian organizations in Idlib, as well as a number of journalists and activists, the “Women and Media” forum was held by the Ana Hi network The forum aimed to find solutions to alleviate the suffering of displaced persons and civilians in general in Idlib Governorate
Zakia Al-Mahmoud, the field coordinator for the Ana Hi network, stated that more than twenty organizations and several journalists participated in the gathering They discussed the needs of displaced women and men and worked on developing a response plan She added that the forum produced a humanitarian access database that will be published for the benefit of displaced people The database includes names and locations of centers that meet the needs of displaced women and men with the hope that the forum will lead to further response initiatives
Representatives of the organizations and the attending journalists discussed the proposed and feasible response plans to assist displaced persons and meet their basic needs, particularly focusing on women as the most vulnerable group under these conditions They considered the meeting between organizations and media professionals a genuine step toward proper action, as it enhances coordination and networking, according to Obaida Al-Dandoush from the SRD organization speaking to Rozana’s correspondent
Al-Dandoush highlighted the differing roles and work of the organizations present at the forum, stressing the importance of continuous communication between them He emphasized that the ideas proposed constitute solutions to the suffering of displaced persons, with each organization addressing the needs within its area of expertise Attention was drawn to specific cases, camps, and shelters to provide appropriate services
The increasing number of displaced people, the arrival of new displaced individuals at camps in northern Syria, and the spread of informal settlements were among the topics strongly raised All participants agreed on the necessity of a rapid response to assist displaced people and to find suitable service solutions
The director of the Civil Defense Center in Kafranbel, Idlib, outlined the extent of services provided by the Civil Defense and the work they can contribute alongside civil society and humanitarian organizations to support displaced persons He added that they are ready to assist in building camps, preparing lands for shelters, evacuating people from bombing sites to safe areas, and helping displaced persons in reception centers
The forum comes at a time when displaced persons are suffering greatly due to the increasing numbers resulting from the military campaign carried out by Russia and the Syrian regime across various areas of Idlib
